Statewide Organization Brings in Veteran Education and Advocacy Leader

Mike Long joins Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina as President

Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina (PEFNC), a statewide organization that advocates for parental school choice, announces Mike Long as PEFNC’s newly named President.

Long assumes the President position after residing as Head of School at Carmel Christian School in Charlotte. He has more than 35 years of educational experience, including as a public school middle school teacher, an AP US History teacher, and a high school principal. Mike is also a pioneer of abstinence education in America, having trained over 60,000 educators in “directive teaching” and spoken to over 1 million teens on the virtues of sexual abstinence until marriage.

Producer of the nationally acclaimed “Everyone Is NOT Doing It” video series and author of two books, Mike has a long track record of professional communications and branding experience. He has also worked to successfully lobby the NC General Assembly and US Congress for his advocacy and education issues.

“I have witnessed an increase in families exploring their educational choice options, and I am encouraged by the growth of charter and private schools dedicated to excellence in academics, athletics, fine arts, and the special needs of children. It has been exciting to see a free educational marketplace providing expanded educational options for parents. We must continue to promote quality educational choice options, whether that be at the traditional public school or by way of an alternative educational environment,” said Long.

Long joins PEFNC to provide all parents and families the same freedom to choose a school, public or private, which best meets the needs of their children. Long adds, “that giving parents and families the freedom to choose empowers them and communities while fostering excellence in education across the board.”

PEFNC’s Board of Directors conducted a national search to fill the position while Executive Vice President Brian Jodice served as Interim President.

“This is an exciting time for parental school choice in our state and the entire PEFNC team remains committed to ensuring all families in our state have access to the education that best fits their child. We are confident that Mike is the leader PEFNC needs to continue our important work, and we are grateful that he assumes this leadership position, one that was held with integrity by our former President, Darrell Allison. We look forward to continuing to move the issue of parental school choice forward under Mike’s leadership,” said Rick Adams, Chairman of the PEFNC Board of Directors.
