Number of NC homeschools increases

The total number of homeschools in North Carolina increased in the 2011-12 school year, new numbers from the N.C. Division of Non-Public Education show. Around 48,000 homeschools are operating in the state, up from 45,524 in 2010.

While total homeschool enrollment saw a drop of about 4,000 students last year, parents continue to seek quality educational options for their children. Students who are homeschooled represent about 5 percent of North Carolina’s entire student population.
