North Carolina Families Share Their School Choice Story with Congress

North Carolina families traveled to Washington, DC as guests for Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina (PEFNC) to share their parental school choice stories with Congress.

PRThe trip was capped off by a special visit to the Speaker of the House’s private balcony, as Paul Ryan took time from his day to meet with students and families. Parents and students share first-hand testimonials about how parents school choice is helping their families, including stories about North Carolina’s Opportunity Scholarship Program, one of three state-sponsored private school measures passed in our state since 2011.

As North Carolina’s Dominque Lyn told reporters in Washington, “my daughter was struggling with acceptance and finding her way in learning.” Thanks to the Opportunity Scholarship Program and the help of a school choice program, Dominque enrolled Gabrielle in a private Christian school, where she’s now making the honor roll.

At PEFNC we believe that it is important to share the voices and stories of our families, here at home, and on the national stage. In addition to meeting with Speaker Ryan, families visited Congressional members from their home Districts and sat down for one-on-one interviews with members of the media and national school choice communications teams.
