HB 1104 (“Scholarship Funding Corporate Tax Credit”) was filed today in the North Carolina General Assembly.
The measure would allow children from lower income families to receive nonpublic school scholarships from nonprofit organizations. These scholarships are funded by corporations that would receive tax credits for their contributions. Currently eight states have similar programs.
The measure already has bipartisan support as House Majority Leader Paul Stam (R – Wake), Rep. William Brisson (D – Cumberland), Rep. Mike Hager (R – Cleveland) and Rep. Marcus Brandon (D – Guilford) are co-sponsors on the bill.
