Next week is a big one for Arapahoe Charter School which is located in Pamlico County. On August 27, the school will open the doors to its first freshman class.
The school previously had classes through the eighth grade. Of the 41 eighth graders from last year, 23 are returning. Three students are transfers, comprising the 26 member freshman class. Classes for these ninth graders will consist of only math and English. Science and history classes will be taken online. Freshman seminar classes will also be given, providing a more young-adult setting for the students.
“It’s our goal to make sure every student who leaves Arapahoe is going to be ready for work at a community college or university,” School principal Tom McCarthy said.
