Arizona continues leadership in parental school choice

A new article featured in the Arizona Republic takes a look back at the tremendous steps that Arizona has taken over the last 20 years in offering greater parental school choice options.

John Huppenthal, Arizona’s superintendent of public instruction, calls Arizona “the most innovative school choice state in the country.”

Recently Gov. Jan Brewer signed the Empowerment Scholarship Account program which gives parents the option to enroll their special needs children in the educational setting they feel would most help them: private schools, online learning programs, home schools, private tutoring, educational therapies, etc. A recent expansion of the program makes the program available to active-duty military families, permanently placed foster-care children and students attending “D” and “F” letter-graded schools.

Over 200,000 Arizona students will be eligible to apply for scholarships in the upcoming year.
